Eastern EQS Pace Set Working Group Conference Call

Just to keep everyone in the loop I wanted to let you know that we had a conference call tonight to discuss the EQS Pace Set Time issues that have come to light over the last couple of weeks. First of all, we just want to be clear with everyone that there were no scoring program mistakes, no course measuring or building errors, and though the results in respect to time points looked different than many - they were correct. Suffice it to say: this issue has a ton of history, and it is impossible to relay its past at this juncture.

For the conference call tonight several members of the working group committee did a considerable amount of data gathering and we were able to discuss the issue with a ton of information at hand (thanks!). We concluded that we will continue to track data over the course of the year and look to adjust the EQS pace set times for next season with the understanding that SOMETIMES we may find a few meets where several athletes max out their time points for the duration of this season. We decided that not only is it not fair to change the game midstream, it would REALLY mess up the scoring program retroactively.

We DID determine that when EQS courses are especially long and steep versus the average EQS meet, this is when the current pace set times rear their ugly heads.

On another note, it was brought to my attention that several parents were discussing these issues with the officials and the Bristol coach during the meet. In the future, please ask your child's coach to address these concerns with the officials. Parents should always respect the coaches' and officials' space by standing clear of them while they are trying to focus on the athletes and their job during an event.
